Mon, 30 July 2007 Frank Gore has apparently fractured his hand in practice, and will be out for a minimum of a week, and as much as the whole preseason. This is probably the best possible time for this type of injury to happen, honestly, since he'll only miss the preseason and should be ready to start the season. However, it's a situation to monitor; if Gore doesn't bounce back quickly, then it might be worth dropping him down your draft list. Of course, that could also mean that you could be able to get him later than you otherwise would have if you're willing to take a chance on him.
Of course, we'll keep an eye on the situation and give you updates as they arrive. Category: fantasy news -- posted at: 9:26 PM Comments[0] |
Sun, 29 July 2007 This week, we discuss the quarterback position for the upcoming fantasy draft, including: When to take Peyton Manning; our picks for the rest of the first tier; why Marc Bulger may be the best non Peyton QB; whether Vince Young's talents can overcome his supporting cast (and the Madden Curse); the question marks around Matt Hasselbeck; why Donovan McNabb's knee injury shouldn't scare you away; the Lions may suck but it won't be because of Jon Kitna; expectations for Philip Rivers' second season as a starter; Matt Leinart under a non-pass-wacky head coach; whether this is finally Alex Smith's year to shine; Matt Schaub's prospects as a starter in Houston; whether JaMarcus Russel's talent can overcome the fact that he's playing in Oakland; Cleveland Rocks but Brady Quinn probably won't; and Jason Campbell as a sneaky pick.

Wed, 18 July 2007 Most of you have probably heard/read/seen this by now, but yesterday Michael Vick was officially indicted for running an illegal dogfighting operation, among other things. Some of the charges and events that supposedly took place are pretty gruesome and disturbing, so keep that in mind if you click on the link. It remains to be seen what action the Falcons or the league will take. And the case still needs to go to trial. But at this point, I can't see how this won't affect his viability on the field in some way. So if you're keeping Vick in mind for your fantasy draft, I'd look elsewhere. If you have him in a keeper league, I'd be looking at replacements. In other much less shocking news, the Dolphins finally releasd Duante Culpepper yesterday. Will be interesting to see where he ends up. Category: general -- posted at: 10:16 AM Comments[0] |
Tue, 10 July 2007 Fellow podcaster and friend of Extra Points, Jersey Todd, just put out an episode containing an excellent commentary on the NFLPA's position that they should be receiving more money for injury benefits. You can read the commentary on his blog in its entirety, but go ahead and download (or better yet, subscribe to) the podcast for the full effect. Besides, Jersey Todd plays some excellent music from some bands you may not yet have heard of, and he's consistently on my must-listen list. Category: general -- posted at: 1:58 PM Comments[0] |
Tue, 10 July 2007 Rotoworld.com just posted an excellent article on bad habits that fantasy owners fall into. I highly recommend that you head over and read it to get yourself into the right mindset to prepare for your fantasy draft. I've personally fallen into some of these traps and seen others fall into the others, and any of them can hurt your chances pretty badly. We'll have the first of our draft preparation episodes available this week to talk about the specific players. Be sure to go back to our tutorial episodes from last summer for more general, strategy-oriented advice. And remember that everything that we say is just our opinion, based on our experiences; you should always make sure to consult multiple sources and then make the decisions that are right for your team and your league.
